Brighten Up Your Garden With Lights the Easy Way!

Outdoor garden lighting can be used for different purposes. Lighting can be a great tool to literally brighten up your garden if it needs a little something extra.
Outdoor landscape lighting can emphasize or hide certain aspects of your garden, lawn, or patio. Even installing temporary outdoor garden lighting is worth your while for parties and other special occasions.

What types of Garden Lighting are Available?

Two of the most common types of exterior lighting are solar fixtures and low voltage installations. Solar lighting, which requires no wiring, is easy to install and reposition, but the fixtures must be placed where they receive adequate sunlight during the day. If your backyard or garden is heavily shaded, low voltage lighting may be a safer choice. As the name implies, these wired fixtures are design for low power consumption and can be placed virtually anywhere.

What Accessories are available for Path Lighting?

The easiest way to light a path is to place solar or low voltage lights along the course of the path so that they softly illuminate parts of the walkway. Another option would be to place recessed lights into the surface of the pathway itself. While this method is more expensive, it will also create a striking and dramatic effect in a heavily landscaped area.

What should you do before beginning an Outdoor garden Lighting Project?

The best way to approach a garden lighting design is to begin by searching online to get a feel for the various styles, products, shapes and colors of fixtures and bulbs available. Find photographs of gardens, lawns, and patios to get a sense of the effect you hope to create. Always make a plan before you begin the work and make sure that you understand the requirements to see that plan realized. If you are not sure what has to be done, ask a professional for help. If you do seek the assistance of a landscape lighting professional, remember to get multiple bids to find both the best price and the best workman for the job.

When you completely understand what you want to do and how it needs to be done, purchase individuals lights or any one of a number of complete landscape lighting kits available in home and garden and home improvement stores. At the point at which the lighting is to be installed, especially if you are undertaking the work as a "do it yourself" project, take all the necessary precautions. Dealing with electricity can be dangerous. If you are in any way uncertain about what you're doing, hire a landscape company or an electrician.
