Although they are comparatively easy to use and durable -they do not provide illuminating effect like traditional liquid fuel or propane lanterns. Paper lanterns are the most commonly used decorative lantern employed for outdoor lighting. Paper lanterns come in various shapes and sizes. Paper lanterns are synonymous with parties and other party-related activities. A paper lantern is simply a paper bag having with a candle placed inside. There are some paintings, drawings, themes or motifs over the paper.

What are Chinese lanterns?

A Chinese lantern is basically an artistically imbibed lantern that is actually a paper lantern. They are collapsible paper lanterns used for ornamental purposes. They are usually painted on the paper with Chinese and calligraphy themes. These types of decorative indoor and outdoor lights lanterns are more common in China and Japan. The type of motif or calligraphy done on Chinese lanterns is known as the "chochin moji."
